Default Un-customizing weapons.

Have you ever had weapons that you've customised and found out a day later that its worth $$$ or you just want to use it on your other character (s)

I tink this would be awsome for the next update or chapter two ^.^
You can simply take your customized weapon to the weapons guy and get it un-customized for 10g or so.

Well this takes away the risk of customizing, basicly customizing something means your keeping it forever for yourself, not just usin it for a while and sellin it off. Why not just add 20% damage to all weapons?

Customization is supposed to be, in my mind, a choice. You can either sacrifice the ability to sell the weapon, or you can sacrifice a 20% damage bonus. Adding the ability to de-customize a weapon removes that choice, which is foolish. Once it is yours, it is yours, no going back. You cannot rub your name out of that sword blade without reforging the sword, which makes it a new blade with its own flaws and strengths (mods).

I'm not in favour of un-customisation. It does, as is said above, remove the risk of having your weapon customized. The only way i could ever think it'd work is if to un-customize a weapon it costs lots. But it should not be implimented.

Or if you had to go on some horrendous quest to find the mysterious un-customization blacksmith. I agree that it shouldn't be implimented anyway though.

I think that the +20% damage modifier should function as a requirement. Meaning that customized weapons can still be bought and sold, and even equipped by other players. But only the person meeting the customization requirement can get the 20% damage bonus.

This way weapons can be resold and reused by other players, without abusing the system. Plus, it's a way to spread some REAL fame or reputation.

I'm telling you... one day "Customized by Carinae Dragonblood" is going to be a major selling point on weapons!!!

the whole idea of customizing is to be a gold sink and take the armor/item (gold) OUT of circulation.

you get a bonus but sacrifice the sale of it later.

you make the choice.

The purpose of customization is NOT to be a gold sink. That's a ridiculous notion. A one time penalty of 10g is NOT a gold sink.

Taking the item out of circulation is fine for most items, but for extremely rare items, it's counter productive. For example:

You could customize an HoD sword. That sword now has your name on it. If you loan that sword to a guildie or friend and they 'forget' to return it, you have a clear case to make with Anet. They might even be able to RETURN the weapon, since ownership is obvious.

.
the weapon/item you paid 250k for and decided you were going to keep it?

10 gold plus 250k gold that is only good for salvage instead or resale.

i think that is a pretty good gold sink.

10 gold plus the cost of the item

Well, that's a good point. But the 10g is utterly insignificant.

But I'd like to point out a bit of hipocracy here on Anet's part. They have gone out of their way to lower item costs, by providing collectors and green items, increasing Gold item drops via chests. And they have openly stated that they wish high-end items were less expensive, so that casual players could get them more easily.

And Customization does the exact opposite. It takes an item out of circulation, and makes the remaining ones more valuable.

Customization is seriously flawed anyway and needs a major overhaul. It's basically Warrior/Ranger specific.

Most casters don't bother to customize their wands, because the Damage bonus is meaningless and it makes the wand/staff unsellable. There's no incentive for casters to customize.

So basically Warriors and Rangers get +20% damage for free, and casters get nothing.

like said above.. giving a chance to remove it is like giving +20% dmg to all weapons then :/

Or maybe in a more balanced way.. like when removing the customization, u also lose ALL upgrades on the item

There's a good point. Perhaps that can be another suggestion thread. Make customization give +3 energy or 5% chance of faster recharge that stacks with other recharge chances or somesuch.

There is a good reason to have this option: so we can get our hands on those Korean coke items or any unique cool weapons from other countries. But of course, un-customizing weapons should cost a lot, like 10 k, to justify the risk/benefit for getting them customized in the first place.

I considered an energy bonus as well. It could work.

A simpler idea would be to make the damage bonus apply to skills/spells also.

um, paying someone 250k for an item isn't a gold sink.

the money is still circulating around GW.

A real gold sink is when the gold disappears into the hands of an NPC. Think dwarven ale.
